When designing a control panel with a motor, we are often faced with the decision of using a VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) or a Soft Starter. AET would recommend making the initial investment and choose the VFD. Although soft starters are smaller and in some cases a VFD can cost two to three times more up front, an efficient VFD can provide energy savings of up to 50 percent, thereby producing significant savings over the life of the equipment.
