Pumping Systems
Ability
Engineering Technology has a line of economical cryogenic pumps which
are available either as a sump pump configuration or as a cold box mount.
The pumps are positive displacement vane pumps using graphite composite
vanes and bearings. Vanes are spring loaded to insure maximum volumetric
flow for a given displacement and allows for operation of the pump at
sub-atmospheric conditions for either gas or liquid. Each pump is custom
designed for your system and application.
The positive displacement
design of the pump allows for high pressure operation at low motor speeds.
Motors are easily fitted with variable speed drives or speed controls
using a feedback control. The vane pump design is able to handle a small
amount of contamination without failure and can be supplied with suction
and discharge strainers and filters.
Sump Pump
Configuration
The Sump Pump configuration is the most economical design and
is ideal for applications using an open mouth dewar as a supply reservoir.
It works well in systems used to circulate liquid nitrogen or another
cryogen from the liquid source to a system for cooling. For applications
at low pressure, the pump is directly coupled to a totally enclosed
motor and requires no warm end shaft seal. For higher pressure applications
(over 25 psi) a carbon face seal is utilized.
Because of its broad
range of capabilities, Ability Engineering Technology can provide the
ancillary equipment such as a subcooler, a dewar line filter and vacuum
jacketed piping for your particular requirements.
Cold Box
Configuration
The pump can be provided for applications where it is required
or desirable to have the pump installed in a cold box or vacuum insulated
well. In these applications the pump is designed with vacuum leak tight
body seals. The motor is externally mounted and can be supplied in variable
speed drive. The pump can be configured for liquid or gas service and
can be designed for pressures up to 200 psi. For cold gas service, multiple
stage pumps can be provided.
Ability Engineering
specializes in the design and manufacture of cryogenic equipment including
helium dewars, cryostats, and vacuum jacketed piping systems. We have
worked with laboratories and universities as well as commercial magnet
manufacturers assisting in the design of "state of the art"
cryostats for superconducting magnets and test cryostats for the qualification
of electronic devices using superfluid helium.
Our experience in
the fabrication of cryogenic and vacuum equipment is unsurpassed in
the domestic market. We collaborate and team with Cryo
Technologies of Allentown, PA on the fabrication of large vacuum insulated
cold boxes and ultra-low heat leak distribution systems for major domestic
and international gas suppliers and laboratories. Cryo Technologies
specializes in innovative, efficient and cost effective process and
mechanical designs for the purification, refrigeration, liquefaction
and distribution of helium and other gases. Using state of the art advanced
manufacturing techniques; Ability Engineering transforms these designs
into world class equipment which operates with unparalleled reliability.
In conjunction with Cryo Technologies, we have built helium purifiers,
nitrogen liquefiers and large helium liquefiers with capacities up to
1500 liters per hour for a major gas supplier. Visit Cryo Technologies'
